Haman: We Have a Problem

As the story in Esther moves ahead, the problem emerges. On the surface it seems like it is simply a matter of an ancient antisemitism. But upon closer examination, we find that sin lies behind our disdain and contempt for others -- whether it brings about celebration, confusion, or persecution. (vv. 2-6, 8-10, 15). But, as we see even in this third chapter of Esther, the Lord sovereignly appoints days and times (v. 7), and, therefore, we attend to his word -- and not simply that of an earthly ruler -- sent to all the nations (v. 14).  In a very full service this Sunday, we also will be celebrating the ordinances of The Lord's Supper and Baptism.
