The Love of the Cross
Beginning our new series for Lent, Purposes of the Cross, we will consider one of the occurrences recorded by Luke in Luke 19:41-44, and consider the significance of Jesus weeping for Jerusalem (after his Triumphal Entry, and heading to the Cross). Connecting this with 2 Corinthians 5:14-15, we see that because Jesus wept for the lost out of his love, we are compelled to love those that Jesus died for. But, as we dive deeper, we see that this means 1) We love our brothers and sisters (1 John 3:16); but, 2) we also love all indiscriminately (2 Corinthians 5:14). While we forget or don't get the consequences of not getting why Jesus came, do we get that our loving as Jesus loved us may even extend to tears? Let's take a closer look.
